2019 Digital Marketing Trends

Can you believe it’s 2019 already? We know you’re probably planning your new year’s marketing strategy. You can bet we are! The world of marketing is forever changing and it’s more important than ever to stay ahead of the curve. Here are our top 5 Digital Marketing Trends to pay attention to in 2019 with some inspiration and ways you can implement these ideas in your marketing strategy! We’d love to hear your comments at the end too! Tell us what you’re thinking!

1. Video Marketing

Video Marketing is more than just YouTube! It’s Facebook, Instagram, and even LinkedIn. It’s been gaining more and more popularity and many businesses are turning to video to engage new customers.

Here’s an example of a video we produced for L’Oreal’s new website

Did you know that 70% of consumers say they have shared a brand’s video? And that 72% of businesses say video has improved their conversion rate? These are HIGH numbers. Users clearly enjoy engaging in video content.

Another trend gaining popularity is Live Streams. Business are finding huge success connecting with their audience via live video. Giving them a chance to see and experience aspects of the business they haven’t traditionally seen:

  • Product Demos

  • Behind the Scenes of events

  • Life at the Office

  • How things are Made

  • Brand Videos

  • And so much more!

Film equipment is decreasing in cost and increasing in quality which makes it much easier for marketing professionals to create better video content for customers.

Something to keep your eye on: 360-degree video content! It allows for a much more interactive experience and its popularity is on the rise. Check out these awesome examples for inspiration!

2. Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing has been gaining popularity as well and, when done right, can have AMAZING results! What is it? At its core, it’s word of mouth marketing that uses key leaders in a field to really take your brand’s message viral. You’re not marketing directly to consumers you’re leveraging influencers. Those influencers help you get the word out.

Influencer marketing is an extremely effective tactic for attracting customers. Influencers can be anyone from celebrities to people who have built up a huge following on social media, to well-known bloggers or even journalists; really anyone who has a large and specific audience.

Customers are going to be more likely to trust their favorite blogger or Instagram Model than a statement from corporate. They’re going to respond better to someone they trust!

Why should you care? Well, influencer marketing delivers a killer ROI! On average, for every $1 invested in influencer marketing campaigns, businesses generate $6.50 in revenue. Very few companies fail to generate any revenue especially when the plan is executed strategically.

3. Voice Search

Did you know that 20% of all Google searches are from voice search? Not only that but that number is expected to grow by 50% in the next 2 years! It’s pretty impossible to ignore these stats. You might be thinking, “ok I see how many people are using it, but how can I take advantage of that?” Excellent question! Here are a few ways:

  • Make your content quote worthy! Instead of writing a regular blog think of it as a series of chunks of text that google can scan to provide a clear answer to questions people may have!

  • Keep your load time fast. Research has shown that voice search prefers fast loading pages.

4. Visual Search

What is visual search? Well it allows users to upload an image and search that image for more specific results! What does that mean for you? It can take your user experience to a whole new level.

You can probably guess what social channel jumped on this bandwagon quickly? Pinterest! They came out with Lens, a visual search tool which allows their users to take a photo of an item they’re interested in buying and pinterest will help them find out where to buy it or show them similar products.

Did you really think Google was going to sit this one out? Of course not! They created Google Lens which is their own visual search engine. This one recognizes objects, landmarks etc. (This is currently only available for the pixel phone *Insert sad face here*

Things you can do with Google Lens:

  • Got a business card that you’re most certainly going to lose? No worries, snap a photo and it’ll be uploaded as a contact.

  • Traveling and see something you’re sure you should know what it is but aren’t? Google’s got you covered! Snap a photo and let google make you an expert.

  • At the museum and loving a piece of art? Snap a pic and let google give you an art history lesson!

Marketers can definitely get in on this trend (and ahead of many others) by bringing customers in to serve them the perfect product.

At this point you might be thinking, “ok I hear you, but what can I do as a marketer?” Here are some resources to get you started:

5. Social Media Stories

Social Media Stories are growing in importance and should be a part of your overall marketing strategy. Since stories are only up for a specific period of time, it’s the perfect opportunity to take advantage of people’s FOMO. You can feature behind the scenes videos, or having a one day sale or ask for reviews!

You might be wondering if the shortened life span of story posts is a bad thing because people might miss it - well, fear not, you can now add stories to your highlights! Which means you can save them so people can find them later! Want some inspiration on how to use stories effectively? Look no further!
